LNG Vessel Anchors Near Plaquemines LNG as Project Nears Cool Down — Three Things to Know About the LNG Market

NO. 1: A loaded LNG vessel from Equinor ASA’s Hammerfest LNG export terminal has anchored southeast of New Orleans near Venture Global LNG Inc.’s Plaquemines LNG project, according to Kpler ship data, raising market speculation that liquefaction equipment could be close to commissioning.

In July, the Department of Energy granted Venture’s request to re-export up to 6 Bcf of foreign-sourced liquefied natural gas to use for cooling down Plaquemines’ first block of trains. In its application, Venture disclosed it could require at least three cargoes to jumpstart cryogenic operations.

The LNG carrier Qogir had been idling southeast of the Plaquemines site since Wednesday and had not signaled a destination, according to ship transponder data reported by Kpler.
