What is the Marcellus Shale?

The Marcellus Shale remains one of the most prolific plays in North America, in terms of both acreage and reserve potential. The Marcellus is generally considered to be dry gas, particularly in Northeast Pennsylvania. However, the gas is more liquids-rich in a number of counties in Southwest Pennsylvania and West Virginia.
