The September Nymex gas futures contract on Wednesday limped along early on its last day at the front of the curve. It was down 1.1 cents to $1.893/MMBtu as of 8:40 a.m. ET.
The October contract, which takes over as the prompt month on Thursday, shed 2.4 cents to $2.061.
Futures have struggled through much of the September contract’s run in the lead position, with steady production and robust supplies in storage offsetting strong summer cooling demand. Now, with fall weather approaching, traders are beginning to fixate on fading demand heading into the shoulder season.
